Me

My name is Mathilde. I am 16. I live with my parents and my two sisters named Héloïse and Lucie. We have two pets, one dog named Loucky and one cat named Siam. My favorite colors are especially yellow and orange. I love reading and also watching movies or TV series . I listen to every kind of music.

My favorite food is rice and red beans
My favorite food is rice and red beans. I can say that I am hard- working and kind but I can be shy too. When I am older, I want to be an accountant. I’ve been learning English since 6th grade. I’ve been doing track and field (I run and throw shot put) since I was 12 years old.

My School

You can see in the background, a picture of my High School: Jardin D’Essai.
In my opinion it is a beautiful place because of the grass and the landscape. Secondly I like it because it is not too big and we do not have many buildings like other high schools. Even though my school is small, my classmates and I are tired to move between each class. And most of all, I can see my friends everyday there.

There are 2 Euro-Caribbean classes
There are 2 Euro-Caribbean classes. We can choose one of the 2 subjects that will be taught in English in addition to the initial class of English . So we have the choice between physics and chemistry or history and geography . Then one class is divided in 2 groups. I chose physics and chemistry. So when I have this subject first, the other group has English and the following week we switch.

My Country

Where is Guadeloupe ? Guadeloupe is geographically part of the American continent. It is located in The West Indies. My country lies between the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Caribbean Sea to the West. It is north of Dominica and south of Antigua. Guadeloupe is located between the tropic of Cancer and the Equator.

What is Guadeloupe ? Guadeloupe consists of 5 islands which are Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre( the twin islands), Les Saintes, La Désirade and Marie-Galante. Our political capital is Basse-Terre and our economic capital is Pointe-à-Pitre. Guadeloupe is at the latitude of 16°15 North and at the longitude of 61°34 West.

Vegetation and fauna Basse-Terre is a mountainous island whereas Grande-Terre is a limestone plateau. We have two types of vegetation. In Basse-Terre, we have a tropical rain forest when in Grande-Terre, we have a tropical dry forest. Basse-Terre is more humid than Grand-Terre because it rains more there. Here is an iguana that is part of our fauna.

Our climate In Guadeloupe, we have a tropical climate. Temperatures are generally warm. They go from 68°F to 86°F. We have two seasons, the dry and the rainy seasons. It never snows in Guadeloupe and we never have tornadoes.

Our climate We occasionally have experienced hurricanes. They occur sometimes in Guadeloupe because they come from the sea and then go to the land where there is warm sea. They can uproot trees and destroy houses and cities. We live in an earthquake prone zone so when an earthquake occurs we can have tsunamis. Because of the Trade winds which blows in Guadeloupe we have a great climate.
