2 About the Netherlands The country is in North Western Europe bordering Belgium and Germany The capital is Amsterdam The population is 16,318,199 Ethnic groups Dutch 83% and other is 17% It is the biking capital of Europe.

3 The Netherlands Culture Food-They will occasionally eat three meals a day. The evening meal is the main meal. The evening meal contains bread, cold cuts, cheese, and salad. They also must wash hands before eating. They must keep hands above table. They may not place elbows on table. Art-There are more than six hundred art museums in The Netherlands. There were famous artists such as Rembrandt Van Rijn And Vincent Van Gogh. The government has significant support for art.

4 The Netherlands Culture Essential Question- I think you should know the traditions of The Netherlands Because it is very unique. Meeting and Greeting, very close friends will greet each other by air kissing near the cheek three times, starting with the left cheek. When invited to a Dutch home bring a box of chocolates, pot of plants, books, or some flowers to the host. Do not give pointed items like knives or scissors it is considered unlucky.

5 The Netherlands Culture Religion-31% of Netherlands is Roman Catholic. Most Catholics live in the southern province. 20% is protestant 55% is Muslim and 3% is other religion. Less than 10% of the population attend religious services on a daily basis. Language-The main Language is Dutch a Germanic language English German and French are mostly understood and sometimes spoken and another form of Dutch is Flemish.

6 The Netherlands Culture Music- techno, Hardstyle, Gabber, and trance are popular in the Netherlands. They have an Amsterdam Music festival that has electric music. Historical Events-After the fall of Charlemagne (he died 814) the lower part of Netherlands was divided into several smaller states. In 1555 Charles of the Habsburg Handed the Netherlands down to his son.

7 Geography Natural resources Natural Gas, petroleum, peat, limestone, salt. Rain is common throughout the year. It is the size o Connecticut and Massachusetts. During winter the average temperature is about 27 Degrees Fahrenheit, the average temperature for summer is about 72 degrees Fahrenheit. In the southeast part of the Netherlands there are hills but they are no bigger than 2,000 ft. Most of the Netherlands is below sea level so polders and dykes are there to prevent flooding and provide more land.

8 Geography Essential Question Essential Question-Q-How has there geography and climate and natural resources connect to daily life and jobs. A= The climate is mild and it effects what they wear. Since the weather is mild they don’t do much swimming and sun bathing. The ground is not very hilly so they can ride bike without getting extremely tired. They are surrounded by water so they use it for transportation of goods and travel too far places.

9 Current Event Unemployment rate doubles among young graduates the unemployment rate under 25 has rose 15% last year. Some 11% of the under 27s without a job have a degree now. In 2010 just 41% of parents bailed out their offspring.

10 Current Events Essential Question- Q=How does the US effect this or how does this event effect the US. A= This event effects the United States Because when people cannot get jobs in their own country they come to the United States to get one so that would mean that the Americans will get a less chance to get a job and they will have to compete to get a job.

12 Economy Essential Question Essential Question- Q=What does the economic data reveal about their quality of life. A= It reveals that the Netherlands and all sorts of countries have different economics and they have there own way of living and they use different natural resources.
