General objectives European education and training policies Reducing early-school leavingImproving the leadership of teachers via teacher education Modernizing higher education by improving its quality, efficiency and openness, and by upgrading the skills and competences of graduates to increase their labour market relevance Enhancing the international dimension of education and training, in particular sustainable cooperation with partner countries Reducing the number of low-skilled adults by means of up-skilling and re-skilling initiatives in the adult learning (lifelong learning) system Enhancing transversal skills including digital skills, entrepreneurial skills and language skillsIncreasing and improving learning opportunities by digital technologies

Key action 1 – Learning mobility of individuals Learning mobility of individuals (both intra Programme countries and with Partner countries) Joint Master degrees

Specific objectives Joint Master degrees Erasmus Mundus Actions = flagship initiative of Lifelong Learning programme International networks of excellence for teaching, learning and research

First call (draft information) November grants will be funded Calls launched and managed by EACEA Average budget/grant = 1,9 million euros Deadline call = March , 12:00pm

Programme & partner countries Erasmus+ Programme countries o EU-28 (including Overseas Country and Territory depending on Denmark, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom ) o Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland o Turkey and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Rest of the world = partner countries ( limitations per action and calls may apply ) Western Balkan Eastern Partnership countries South- Mediterranean countries Third countries neighbouring the EU Industrialised countries Africa, Carribean and Pacific Asia and Latin- America Other partner countries

What is funded? The delivery of a joint master programme 60, 90 or 120 ECTS programmes three consecutive cohorts off student intakes (4 or 5 year grant agreements depending on the length of the Joint Master Degree programme) organised by and international consortium of HEIs guest lecturers are to be included for teaching, tarining and/or research purposes a lump sum covering the consortium management fees and a mandatory minimum number of teaching (staff mobility) The award of scholarships to excellent students worldwide a lumpsum for individual student scholarships covering the entire duration of the Joint Master Degree scholarship varies in accordance with the students' country of origin, the duration and the amount of tuition fees charged by the Joint Master Degree consortium, The scholarship will contribute to cover: travel costs, installation costs, subsistence costs, course fees and insurance costs Maximum EU- cofinancing rate = 80% Minimum three HEIs from three different participating countries, one of which must be an EU Member State. The active participation of at least one organisation from the non-academic world

Eligibility criteria / Who can apply? Coordinator = HEI from a Programme countryAll participating HEIs from Programme Countries hold an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education establish interinstitutional agreements amongst each other All HEIs from Partner Countries establish interinstitutional agreements with HEIs from Programme Countries Non-academic partners enterprises and other representatives of the world of work; research institutions; bodies active in the area of education and training; non-profit organisations, NGOs; associations, foundations, and other bodies involved in the fields of education and training; local, regional and national public authorities; …

Quality assurance during initial funding period Selection process with limited number of grants Submission of annual progress reports by consortium (necessary for next grant instalments) Online Mobility tool: qualitative and quantitative monitoring Minimally 1 monitoring visit Quality review at the end of initial funding period Thematic clusters

Expected results = Contribute to the Europe 2020 and Education & Training 2020 strategies Quality improvement, innovation, excellence and internationalisation of the involved higher education institutions Quality and attractiveness if European Higher Education Area by offering full degree scholarships to the best Master students worldwide Supporting EU external actions in higher education Improving level of competencies and skills of Master graduates (labour market relevance)

Selected Joint Master Degrees Long term support to increase worldwide visibility and sustainability prospects Initial funding period = 4 tot 5 years with 3 consecutive student intakes Then, quality review for the best Joint Master Degrees If approved, then uptake in Joint Master Degrees Catalogue with additional funding for three student intakes

Erasmus Mundus Master Courses After successful quality review: additional funding period of up to 3 student intakes By the end of agreement, then invitation to apply for selection procedure (quality review) to the Joint Master Degree Catalogue Current 138 existing Erasmus Mundus Master Courses will be funded until end of contract
