Grade 5 MARKET DAY 2015 Your Business Opportunity!

What is Market Day? Market Day is a unique opportunity for you to learn the basics of operating a business and making money! When is Market Day? Market Day will probably be held during the last week of the year when we have Panorama Week. How does it work? You will be required to MAKE three craft items. One of which MUST be make entirely from recycled material. You MAY NOT buy items and re sell them. Whatever you sell has to be made. You need to make at least 15 – 20 of each item – so that is a total of 60 items. Once you have made your items, you will choose/be put into a group of 5 to work together on the day to sell your items. Who buys our items? The boys from grade 1 to grade 7 plus the staff are your customers What do we make? This is the exciting part! Take a look at some of these ideas I saw on the Internet…….

Toys made from various plastic bottle tops! Cool pencil holders made from plastic bottles and paper!

Containers made from the bottoms of 2l Coke bottles! Desk stationery holder also made from the bottoms of 2l cooldrink bottles Candle holder – very useful during load shedding!

Plant containers from plastic bottles!

Using newspaper!! Weaving Paper mache Coiled

Wooden clothes peg star – can be made bigger and into a pot stand. Use wooden pegs to cover a tin! Decorate wooden pegs, add a magnet and there you go… fridge magnets!

Loads of fun ideas using wooden clothes pegs!!

PENCIL TOPPERS

Using BEADS

The ideas are endless! Where did I find all these ideas?? On the INTERNET. There are millions of websites. All you need to do is Google ‘CRAFT IDEAS FOR KIDS’ and you are away!

Got a lot of old CDs and marbles?? How about a few of these lovely candle holders??

Got lots of thick cardboard?? Howe about a wastepaper basket for your room?

Piggy bank out of plastic bottles, spray painted and decorated!!

Recycle old shoes!! The older the better!

Herbs in decorated cans! Always popular.

We know there are a million questions you want to ask but they will have to wait! We will be giving you a handout with more information before the end of term so that you can use the holidays to look for ideas and make a SAMPLE for us to see next term.. BUT…… there are some items you may NOT make: Anything that SHOOTS something – elastic guns, bows and arrows, darts or catapults etc Anything that EXPLODES – volcanoes in bottles Anything that could be harmful to someone No hand written COMICS or BOOKS No BOOKMARKS with inappropriate wording No STRESSBALLS of any description No ELASTIC BALLS unless part of another item Homemade GOO Then as this is a CRAFT MARKET, you may not sell FOOD or DRINKS of any kind and there are also no RAFFLES or GAMES.

Who can help? Anyone!
