1 Upcycled Sketchbook Covers Dave Hind: An artist who specializes in reclaimed metal and other found objects in his works Where you can find reclaimed metal: - Cans, wire, computers, electronic parts, machinery, fencing, signs, etc.

2 Upcycling + Creativity Why are we making our own sketchbooks you ask? Upcycling is an upgrade for recycling. Every time you upcycle something, you're saving it from the landfill and/or from recycling. Recycling is great! But it can still take a toll on the environment as well as use a lot of energy. Creativity! It is way more meaningful to make your own sketchbook than to buy it. Also, you get a chance to show off who you are in an assignment without too many guidelines.

11 In Summary Have fun with your sketchbook cover, let it reflect something about yourself! Be creative in the materials you are “Re”using. The options are endless: Cereal boxes, (any cardboard for cover will work), or rigid plastic, old gift tissue, fabric scraps, magazines, CD artwork, deck of cards, plastic bags, tin foil, wire, beads, electrical tape, old wooden rulers, old envelopes, food wrappers, etc…. You can always sew it on, glue it on, add paint, markers, collage. But think about your design first. Lay it out before you make anything permanent.
