Presentation transcript:

 Issue based engagement in Nigeria’s political space with focus on increasing women’s visibility, inclusion and performance  Constitutional reforms – the fanfare starting with funds and fiscal responsibility and cost of governance  Electoral reforms – Uwais report as the benchmark for Nigeria’s route that has been endorsed nation wide.  Legislative responsibility and partnership with CSOs

1. An established culture of structured process for engagement and input by strategic stakeholders 2. Increased legitimacy and visibility for the issues addressed 3. Effective implementation supported by mechanisms of communication and advocacy for promoting the issues 4. Keen commitment of engendered among partners. 5. Increased awareness around the subject in specific and wider spaces. 6. Quality participation of diverse groups who bring significant value addition and technical expertise. 7. Availability and utilization of international and local spaces for lesson sharing 8. Documentation that ensures sustainability and learning that facilitates learning for replication and programme review

 Inclusivity as a factor of agenda setting depth and sustainability  Synergy harnesses resources and reduces cost but also bring up new challenges around credits, management and leadership  Documentation enables lesson sharing while also providing a learning mechanism Lessons

 Secured greater recognition and understanding for gender based issues.  Forging a strategy informed by comparative advantage: Voices from civil society recognised as key technical resource this guarantees participation in policy, law and other decision making processes.  More knowledgeable women in public office  Formal platform for Civil Society – Government cooperation – GEM  Better mobilisation - one notch closer to an organized women's movement  Building and harnessing strength across differences (key operative word is GENDER)

 As it were, key purposes of the GAA project had been and still remain the core of partner organisations (increasing the numbers of women in policy and governance). Despite this, the following efforts are being put in place to ensure sustainability for the GAA IBP: 1. Establishing linkage and partnership with projects (especially by partners and steering committee members) that seek similar purposes and objectives. 2. Exploring possibilities of alternate and counterpart funding for activities that have similar purposes and objectives 3. Establishing and maintaining partnerships with civil societies and government agencies on strategic initiatives (GTU) Successes: 1. Partnership established with RHV project (All steering committee members are also partners under the RHV project) 2. Secured alternate and counterpart funding and material support for project and activities from IRI, CIDA, UNIFEM and Unity Bank
