Year 11 Exam Preparation Evening 20th November 2014

“Parental involvement in children’s education from an early age has a significant effect on educational achievement, and continues to do so into adolescence and adulthood.” The Impact of Parental Involvement on Children’s Education

Motivation- not just for the kids! Parental support is 8 times more important in determining a child’s academic success than social class. The Campaign for Learning found that parental involvement in a child’s education can mean the difference between an A* and an ‘also- ran’ at GCSE.

Look familiar?

What you can do… Give them a sense of control Build in rewards Talk to them Praise when earned

She always panics in exams and I’m worried that she won’t cope. Always the last minute with everything. He tells me to “chill” but I seem to be the only one who is worried! I don’t understand half of what she does. How can I help? Going out again! He’s got exams coming up. I only asked what she wanted for tea. Now the door is off it’s hinges and we’re not talking- again!

Help is at hand…. Ursula Hodgson – Assistant Headteacher Ray Foy – Head of Year 11 Mark Saunders – Careers and Student Support Centre Leanne Cowburn – Student Support Centre Manager. Kelly Hibbert – Alternative Curriculum and KS4 Support Diane Ault – Academic Mentor

Growth Mindset No one is ever proud of what they did half- heartedly. Effort is the key to success. Avoid Turtonitis! Think of your future. - What do you want? - What do you need?

Working Together TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More. Use the resources available, especially our expert staff. Keep the home – school channels open. Don’t let anxiety fester; shout, share and solve.

The Future is Bright The next two years will be Turton’s best ever. Build on current strengths. Build on a great attitude.

We don’t believe in or care about league tables. We only care about individual students, but…
