Podcasts

Podcasts are free independently produced programs  Some produced by individuals  Some produced by broadcasters

Searching and Subscribing Click the “Podcasts” item in the Source list, then click the “Podcast Directory” link In “search” space type in the name or keyword of the podcast you want to find From the list of available podcasts, click the “subscribe” button Click the “Settings” button to set up preferences  The most recent episode will be downloaded  Future episodes will be automatically downloaded  Past episodes can be downloaded as you wish with the “get” button

Downloading and Playing You can play podcasts from the podcast page or you can download it and listen, or save it to a device You can download specific episodes without subscribing Some podcasts are daily, some are more infrequent You can create playlists of your podcasts You can send a link to a podcast to a friend or student Either to the right of the “subscribe free” button or by dragging the podcast to your desktop (.pcast file)

Viewing and Managing Podcasts Click “Podcasts” in the left column of your iTunes to view all downloaded podcasts Click “Settings” at bottom of screen  You can set the download preferences of your podcasts

Managing Podcasts Most podcasts you can find through iTunes store (iTunes subscription link) If podcasts has no iTunes link then copy url and paste it into iTunes (Advanced Subscribe to podcast) Audiobooks can also be downloaded into iTunes

Podcast Directory Go to “Podcast Directory” or “iTunes Store, Podcasts” Under “Categories” choose “Educational” Scroll down to bottom right under “More Education” and choose “K-12” Can then search podcasts under “News & Noteworthy,” “What’s Hot,” and “All Podcasts”

Searching iTunes iTunes is a section of the iTunes store which has free audio and video podcasts from schools and universities In the “Search Store” window in the upper right, type in your keyword(s) and hit Enter You will get all media with those keywords (apps, music, iTunesU, podcasts, videos, books, etc.) Within Podcasts, some will be audio, some will be video

iTunesU Similar to audio and video podcasts, but are not daily/weekly You can search via university/school or topic Under “Featured Collections” on the lower right, you can choose “U.S. History & Politics”
