Using iTunes in Storytime Use iTunes to manipulate songs to use in your storytime programs.

Download iTunes

Import song Import a song you’d like to use puppets with from a CD or the iTunes Store.

Add info to song title Left click slowly on song title and add animals mentioned in song. This will be useful to you in the future when searching for songs to use in a storytime theme. For example: Say Good Day (cow, pig, dog, chicken, kid) Be consistent with your word choices (bunny or rabbit). For future searching use the “Search Library” field in the upper right hand corner.

Right click on the song title and choose “Create AAC Version.” A duplicate of the song will be made directly underneath the song.

Re-name the song Slowly left click the title of the duplicate song and change the name. For example: Say Good Day (cow) Repeat this process, duplicating the original file, until you have enough copies for each animal mentioned in the song. For this particular song, you’ll need a total of 6 songs: 1.Say Good Day (cow) 2.Say Good Day (pig) 3.Say Good Day (dog) 4.Say Good Day (chicken) 5.Say Good Day (kid) 6.Say Good Day (cow, pig, dog, chicken, kid)

Listen to song for lengths Listen to the original song. Take notes on when each animal changes using the timer in the upper center: cow:0:00-0:35 pig:0:36-1:06 dog:1:07-1:40 chicken:1:41-2:13 kid:2:14-3:01 Right click on the song and choose “Get Info”

Change each song’s length Click on the Options tab. Change the Start Time and Stop Time for each song based on your notes. cow:0:00-0:35 pig:0:36-1:06 dog:1:07-1:40 chicken:1:41-2:13 kid:2:14-3:01

Create a Playlist Click on File → New → Playlist Name your Playlist For example: Say Good Day with puppets

Drag songs to Playlist Drag the songs into the Playlist.

Copy or Burn Playlist You can plug in your iPod, iPad, iPhone, etc and drag the playlist to your device. Or, you can burn a CD to use in a CD Player for storytime. If using a CD, press the Repeat button to keep the song going on Cows until you get a chance to say hi to everyone with the cow puppet. Skip to the Pigs track, grab the pig puppet and keep going!

Repeat songs using iPod Go to the Settings tab in the first menu. Go to the Repeat tab and scroll until the One choice. This repeats the same song over and over. Notice the circular arrows icon with the number 1 in the upper left hand corner when the song plays.
