A Sustainable Residential Design Project
Presentation transcript:

 This is our group project for the assignment.  It is a large house designed to hold 50 people living in the house.  It is a 4,000 square foot house that is single story.

 It has three main rooms.  The rooms are bedroom, bathroom and large room that have kitchen area and area with games and couches.  This house design to be made with green technology and meet green technology process.

 It will be built on 15 acres of land.  The land is wooded right now which mean it need to be cleared before house built.  It already laid for electrical and plumbing.  It is on route 1274 near Licking Bridge Road.

 Foundation  Framing  Windows  Plumbing  Electrical  Roof

 The foundation should always be insulated on outside.  Crawl space under house would be 24 inches to make it easier access when needed.  The forms will be made from recycled materials  The concrete would have fly ash in it. This concrete is more durable leading to longer lasting foundation.  A perimeter drain would also be added to move water away from foundation that could damage it.

 The Optimum Value Engineering or advanced framing will be used in house.  This technique only use structural needed pieces of wood to make house.  It also use less wood and better for buyer and environment.  This mean using 2*6 spaced 24” apart.  Corners made with two studs.  Roof will be made with trusses.

 The windows will be rated to be green.  This is rating on how efficient they are at keeping heat in and outdoors out.  They will be installed to minimize the air that can leak in and out of windows.  Insulated doors and windows are most energy efficient.  Best placement for sunlight.

 A high efficiency water heater will be installed  Water pipes will be insulated to reduce heat loss.

 The house will have CFL bulbs installed.  Expansion foam will be used to seal off around outlets and light switches.

 The roof will be light colored and use long life shingles.  These balance long life and initial cost of roof.  The color will be light like a tan color because it keep house cooler than dark roof.  Designed to keep the home in the best temperature ranges.

 The house have three big rooms.  This was done because with so many people you need to have as much room inside as possible without narrow walkways and walls taking space up.  The bathroom have five showers and five toilets. This is ten percent of max people that can live there. We figure that it unlikely more than that need to use those at one time.  There are four washer and dryer units. There are 25 sets of single person bunk beds that are in one big bedroom.  If this many people live together it is probably situation like specific group or college people and they won’t mind sharing big room.  It is at back of house so people sleeping might not get bothered by others in house. The last room is multi purpose. It have kitchen in corner with stove and fridge. It also have couches and chairs to sit in and two table games.

 Green building technology is available  It is cost effective  Better for environment  More modern homes and people like them
