Middle School: – students, parents and teachers working hand in hand in preparing students for the future Linda Clifford. Middle School Deputy Principal. Sept. 2010

HOMEWORK BELIEFS We believe homework develops good study habits enhances automatic responses in areas of mathematics and reading. (tables, number bonds, decoding etc.) builds foundation skills and competencies develops discipline and concentration provides motivation required for higher- level learning.

TEACHERS PROVIDE HOMEWORK TASKS: - to reinforce lessons teach time management prepare and research for new material Review material for tests and examinations

HOW CAN I SUPPORT MY CHILD? Providing a quiet area away from all distractions with a study desk, appropriate equipment and IT tools. Sharing in your child’s work by encouraging and supporting independent learning. By not getting too involved with homework tasks. Conflicts can occur if you try to use a different teaching technique and this can lead to confusion and frustration by everyone! Check your child’s homework diary regularly and sign weekly.

TIME ALLOCATIONS Years 6 & 7: 1 hour (not including 20 mins reading time) Year 8: 1-1 ½ hours Year 9: 1 ½ hours
