2. Our Mission
Jefferson Jaguars do whatever it takes to achieve high levels of learning for everyone.

3. Reading at School Whole Group Lessons
Teachers and students read together to
model reading strategies,
introduce new genres,
expand vocabulary, and
model thinking skills.
This stretches kids to try higher reading levels, and supports them in trying the new skills when they read in small groups and independently.

4. Grades 3-5: C.I.A. Approach Teachers model using longer texts to:
Demonstrate how the act of reading should change over the course of a text
Help students build stamina
Model the quadrant approach to chapter books

6. Reading at School Small Group Lessons
New skills and strategies are modeled at the student’s level
Re-teaching or enrichment
Kids get immediate feedback
Kids get guided practice
Intensive adult-student interaction

7. Reading at School Independent Reading
Students choose books at their independent level for fun, fast, and easy practice
Teachers meet 1:1 with students to check their growth and push them to the next level
Students share what they’re learning through “accountable talk”

Try reading at a different time in the day
Read with a tool: flashlight, spoon, etc.
Talk with your child’s teacher to get more ideas
