>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> 4 “Do not confine your children to your own learning for they were born in another time” - Chinese Proverb

>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Education in the Past No technology access Teacher Centered Boring drill and kill style Curriculum-centered educational approach Only information processing and memorization
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Teachers in the Past Authoritarian Teacher dictates what is being taught Used some visuals Used a generic curriculum Did not differentiate
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Usage of Technology in Classroom The tools were: * chalkboard with chalk * paper and pencil * textbooks and encyclopedias * some visuals
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> The old way of schooling does not match with the demands of our informational age. How are we doing today?
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Are accustomed to technology Are used to multitasking Are info-savvy Spend 3.1 hours a day watching TV Spend 3.5 hours a day using digital media Have short attentions spans Our Students Today
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Technology at my Campus Today Each classroom has 5 networked computers Each class has a smart board and a projector The classrooms have an ELMO document camera There are 2 computer labs available Internet connection in the classrooms Students have access to web-based programs such as Study Island and Web Achiever BUT…..
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> BUT….. The computers need a user name and password that sometimes does not work The Smart board are used as fancy projectors and not for interactive lessons There computer labs are closed a lot when the teacher assistants are not available or to print reports The ELMO cameras are used mostly to display worksheets or review assignments
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Teacher at my Campus Today 80% teach using a student centered approach Teachers give state assessments using palm pilots Only about 50% attend summer technology trainings Still follow curriculum-centered educational approach Use computers for administrative purposes
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Positive Usage of Technology The UIL competition for 2 nd and 5 th grad District had Summer Technology Conference The curriculum for the district will be online Each school has an online website District is training MTT to provide support for teachers
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> “Getting classrooms up to speed for the demands of 21stcentury technology takes more than new computers, high-tech gadgets and other hardware. It takes proper leaders.” -- Stephanie Bertholdo
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> How do we match our teaching with the demands of a technology advancing world? Provide an MTT for every Campus Make teachers accountable for attending technology trainings Allow participation of all grade levels in UIL competition Students should turn in a technology portfolio with technology products Principals should monitor for technology usage in the classrooms and provide support if necessary
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Changes for the Future Technology integration in all subjects Bored StudentsEngaged Students
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> How can the Master Technology Teacher Help? Teacher asks for assistance with technology MTT meets with teacher to discuss what the needs are MTT meets with teacher to plan a lesson based on needs MTT models lesson while teacher observes then discusses with teacher Teacher conducts A similar lesson while MTT observes
>>0 >>1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >> Vision Accomplished….. Our students and teachers will develop the necessary skills to utilize technology as a tool when creating, accessing, evaluating and communicating information. Students will use technology as a resource to achieve curriculum outcomes, to develop problem solving skills, and as a means for metacognition. Teachers will be provided the needed support when utilizing technology to create instructional materials, prepare and deliver lessons, and evaluate students. The end result will be info-savvy students that are equipped to compete in our rapid changing world.
