Director of Advising University of Central Florida “I am the Director of Advising for the Psychology Department, please come visit our Advising Center if you have any questions concerning your major or minor in Psychology. If you are interested in an internship opportunity (which is a 2 semester commitment) as a Peer Advisor* please come in and fill out an application one semester before you wish to intern.” Karen Cox

Program Assistant University of Central Florida “I am the Program Assistant in the Psychology Advising Office. I have worked in this office for 21 years. I will be happy to meet with you concerning your questions related to evaluation of your SASS Audit for either the major or minor in psychology and information related to internships and research opportunities that will enhance your chances to get into graduate school or to get a job with your bachelor's degree in psychology.” Glema Butler

Peer Advisors University of Central Florida The Psychology Peer Advisors are advanced undergraduate psychology majors who assist other psychology major/minors in understanding and completing their psychology degree requirements. The Peer Advisors inform students of academic policies and procedures, assist in conducting orientations for freshman and transfer psychology student orientations, and provide advisement on other psychology-related matters such as procedures in applying for graduate school. Peer Advisors are trained by Karen Cox, the Director of Undergraduate Advising for the Psychology Department, and earn upper level psychology credit.

Curriculum University of Central Florida The requirements of Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree* can be found at the following link: ology.pdf *Please, keep in mind that catalog years do matter, and whichever catalog year the student is in those are the requirements that apply to him/her.

Degree Audit University of Central Florida The Degree Audit is a computer-generated evaluation of a student's progress toward a specified degree program. It is NOT an official transcript. Use your Degree Audit to check which degree requirements you have met and which you have not met. Audits are online through the MyUCF portal, or the Advising Center. For more information check out the following link: o_sass

Internships/Research University of Central Florida Participating in undergraduate research will expand your academic experience at UCF. Research is a process of careful inquiry leading to the discovery of new information. Although there are some differences in how research is conducted across disciplines, research is not restricted to certain disciplines and occurs in all programs at UCF. Undergraduate students are currently working on numerous and diverse projects. For more information look into the following link: We also encourage you to regularly check the bulletin board inside the Psychology Advising Center for newly posted internship and research opportunities.

FAQ’s University of Central Florida Q: Why can’t I register for upper level classes? A1: You have not completed your prerequisites. A2: Possibly you have completed your prerequisites but you have not declared your major yet. Q: Do I need to make an appointment with an advisor? A: When seeing a peer advisor we see students on walk-in basis. However, if you require to speak with the director of advising or the program assistant you may schedule an appointment.

FAQ’s continued.. University of Central Florida What Prerequisite Courses Do Psychology Majors Need to Take? (A) One biology course: Psychology majors must take a basic biology course. BSC 1005 Biological Principles will fulfill this requirement if no additional biology courses are planned. BSC 2010C General Biology should be taken if additional biology courses are planned. (B) One introductory psychology course such as PSY 2012 General Psychology (C) DEP 2004 Developmental Psychology (D) One introductory course in statistics: STA 2023 Statistical Methods I or STA 2014C Principles of Statistics. STA 2023 has prerequisite of either College Algebra or Finite Math while STA 2014C has no prerequisites but you must register for a lab with this course. Choose the STA 2014C if you want a more basic statistics course. The STA 2023 will expose the student to the use of statistical methods to arrive at statistical conclusions. The material covered in these introductory courses in statistics serves as a foundation for both PSY3204 Statistical Methods in Psychology and PSY 3213C Research Methods in Psychology.
