Some say the world will end in fire Some say in ice. Annotation Some (Some Common People) believe that our world will end by burning in fire (Believe of Hindu and Christian Mythology) and some (Some Common People) have the idea that earth will be destroyed by flooding in ice or water (Believe of Hindu and Christian Mythology).

From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favour fire. Annotation But because of the experiences the poet feels that Desire (The Fire of Greed) will destroy this world in the same manner in which it may be destroyed by fire.

But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice. Annotation Poet says that he has seen the effects of hatred (Ice of Apathy or Lack of concern for others) also. This will destroy the world with double effect. Apathy kills two people – One who shows Apathy and another who suffers from Apathy.
