HIGHLAND PARK BOND WORK The final results will be AMAZING!

NEED FOR BOND CONSTRUCTION We have a lovely school in a beautiful park-like setting. But it is over 60 years old, and that means periodically major maintenance is needed. Fortunately, we’ve received bond money from the district to fix a key issue-- improving the drainage on the property so that water is channeled away from the building instead of collecting underneath it-- and to make related structural improvements. At the same time, we’ll gain some exciting new improvements to the school: a brand new building that will house our computer lab and a complete renovation of our library.

FINAL RESULTS New 1000 square foot building- Multipurpose Room that will be utilized as a computer lab Library renovation, including adding previous computer lab space, new book casing, furniture, carpet, HVAC, and overall layout Rebuilt and upgraded south gym wall with corridor attached Rebuilt exterior main hallway walls and roof Creation of extensive underground drainage system Repaved staff parking lots Addition of pavers with bike racks

CONSTRUCTION PLAN April- May 2015: Prep for major summer work Community removal and fostering of building foundation plants (any plant within 3 ft of the entire foundation perimeter of the building) May 21, 2015: Packing and moving of library and computer lab into room 504.

CONSTRUCTION PLAN June- Aug 2015: Major demolition, fencing, trenching, paving, and building Addition of chain-link construction zone fencing for safety. Removal of metal security fence and trees between 300 and 500 wing (5 th and 3 rd grade wings). Trenching with piping for underground drainage system, one section at a time for safety. Complete asbestos abatement and sealing in the crawl space under the building. Complete 3 foot concrete barrier around the perimeter of the building to stop drainage problem.

CONSTRUCTION PLAN Demo and rebuild of south gym wall, sidewalk and roof leading to 5 th grade wing, bookroom and exterior walls in main hallway. Demo and repaving of both staff parking lots. Demo of computer lab walls to open up the space to the library. Addition of a temporary portable building on the south side of the blacktop, perpendicular to the portable building with Spanish and traveling art. Renovation of library.

CONSTRUCTION PLAN Start building new multipurpose room in the courtyard between the 300 and 500 wing (5 th and 3 rd grade wings). Addition of alternative exterior doors for 5 th grade bathrooms to be used during completion of construction in the fall. Addition of new pavers with bike racks. August 3, 2015: Building is safe and open for staff to enter.

CONSTRUCTION PLAN August January 2016: Complete of building after school hours Completion of final library finishes and furniture installation. Completion of multipurpose room.

INFO FOR FAMILIES/COMMUNITY Safety is of the highest importance! All construction workers have completed background and drug tests. Read the letter/ for information on fostering a HP foundation plant. Assess to the park and playground will likely be limited through Highland Park campus during all bond work. All construction work during next school year will be completed after school hours, but all machinery and fencing will be there, as needed.

INFO FOR TEACHERS/STAFF No campus entry between June 8- August 3, construction workers on site every day Safely secure or take home items of value. Typical summer room pack-up and clean-up, no direct bond work in classrooms.
