Native American Terms

Temporary (adj): something that is not meant to last for a long time Permanent (adj): something that is meant to last for a long time Nomads (n): people that move often and don’t build permanent shelters. (adj) Nomadic Migrate (v): when animals move with seasons or weather conditions

Native American Terms Shelter (n): a building used for protection Which is permanent and which is temporary?

Native American Terms Cotton (n): a farmed crop used to make cloth Three sisters (n): three main crops grown for food by Native Americans—corn, beans, & squash

Native American Terms Caribou (n): large, deer-like mammal that lives in the very northern area of North America.

Native American Terms Buffalo (n): large animal found mostly on the Great Plains that was a staple* food for Plains Native Americans *a food a group of people depends on for nutrition. Examples are rice, corn, beans, wheat.

Native American Terms Cedar Trees (n): large trees mainly found in the western parts of North America.

Native American Terms Hide(n): dried skin from an animal…we usually know it as leather. Sinew(n): dried animal tendons used to make cord…such as for a bow and arrow.

Native American Terms Adobe(n): brick made from dried mud, sand, stone, and straw. Used by tribes that lived in the desert.
