Guatemalan Food

Introduction  In Los Angeles students eat food from all over the world.  Usually from the country of their heritage.  I’ll show you two recipes from my country, Guatemala. I love these two dishes.  ENJOY! (Angel Ochoa)

Banana Bread: Great for breakfast!

What you need  * 1/4 pound (1/2 cup) butter  * 1/2 cup Sugar  * 1 pound ripe bananas (2 or 3 large)  * 1/2 teaspoon salt  * 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon  * 1 tablespoon lemon juice  * 1 egg, well beaten  * 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour  * 2 teaspoons baking powder

Steps  Soften the butter at room temperature and cream it with the Sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.  Mash the bananas and add to the butter and Sugar mixture.  Add the salt, cinnamon, lemon juice, and egg.  Sift the flour with the baking powder and fold it into the liquid mixture.  Pour the batter into a greased (9 by 5-inch) loaf pan.  Bake in a preheated moderate (350 F.) oven for 1 hour, or until a cake tester comes out clean.  Serve with honey as a cake, or as a pudding with cream or ice cream.

Mango Avocado Salsa (great with fried tortilla chips)

What you need  1 mango, peeled and chopped  1 red pepper, diced  1 tomato, diced  2 avocados, peeled and chopped  1/4 red onion, diced  1 dash garlic salt (optional)

Mole Poblano This is mole poblano. This dish is used for many events such as parties, baby showers, quinceañeras and sweet 16 parties or we just eat it because it tastes very good.

Chinese Food In America, Chinese food is very popular. In the US we have people from different parts of the world and Chinese people are one of the many nationalities who live in Los Angeles.

Overall in Los Angeles you can find a variety of food from different cultures all over the world. These are just the foods that are most common to us. We eat these foods because our parents bring them from their cultures. We have noticed there are also foods from other parts of the world that we have never even tried, which is why I didn’t include them. These foods represent us so you can have an idea of what we eat.
