This prohibition also includes participation in NCAA/NIT Tournament Bracket sheets, fantasy leagues, and “harmless pools” in which an entry fee is required and money or any item of tangible value may be won. If you risk something to win something, it’s not permissible!

Playing & Practice - Spring Semester Reminders Facts: Coach requested that student- athletes report individual workouts back to the coaching staff the week prior to exams, which was outside the declared playing season. Coach misinterpreted that since she was not rewarding or punishing the student-athletes for participation that requesting the information was permissible and that the SA’s activities were voluntary. Rule: -For all sports not in their Championship Segment, last practice is one week prior to the 1 st day of finals. That day is Friday, April 26 th If you are in your Championship Segment, daily and weekly hour limitations apply to finals week.

Playing & Practice - Spring Semester Reminders Facts: Outside of their playing season, the men’s water polo team participated in 10 hours of CARA hours each week. They were also required to participate in 6 days of practice during each of those weeks. Rule: Out-of-Season - Must be giving 2 days off a week. CARA cannot exceed 8 hours.

Playing & Practice - Spring Semester Reminders Facts: Women’s basketball team participated in one hour of skill instruction with more than four student-athletes after April 15 th. Rule: Out of Season- Sports other than Football: Prior to Sept 15 th and after April 15 th, not more than four student- athletes from the same team may be involved in skill-related instruction with their coaches at any one time in any facility.

Playing & Practice - Spring Semester Reminders Facts: A video clip of skill instruction was made and posted on the institution’s website, Youtube account, and the coaches twitter account. Rule: Sports other than Football: Skill-related instruction shall not be publicized and shall not be conducted in view of a general public audience.

Playing & Practice - Spring Semester Reminders Facts: During the summer, strength and condition coaches monitored and conducted voluntary workouts. They occasionally required student- athletes to participate in additional activities as punishment for missing class. Rule: Discipline involving required and monitored physical activity must be included within the countable hours.

Importance of Self-Reporting Violations  It’s required (NCAA Constitution 2.8.1).  It’s a primary element of institutional control.  It’s better to have violations and self-report, than to not report any violations.  It’s necessary to resolve eligibility issues. 24
