 Any required activity with an athletics purpose involving student-athletes at the direction of or supervised by one or more of an institution’s coaching staff (including strength and conditioning coaches)  Administrative activities (e.g., academic meetings, compliance meetings) shall not be considered as countable athletically related activities.  See handout

Recording Hour Limitations  Countable hours must be recorded for each student-athlete.  Every team is responsible for submitting countable athletically related activities through ACS Athletics. ◦ This must be done by the end of the first week of every month. For example, January’s countable hours must be submitted by the end of the first week in February.

 Competition Day: ◦ All competition and any associated athletically related activities on the day of competition shall count as three hours regardless of the actual duration of the activities. ◦ However, countable athletically related activities may not be conducted at any time following competition, except between contests (e.g., double-headers in softball or baseball, rounds of golf).

Recording Hour Limitations  No countable athletically related activities between midnight and 5:00 AM  Countable hours do not apply during the preseason or institutional vacation periods for teams that are in-season.  Definition of week: shall be defined as any 7 consecutive days to be determined at the institution’s discretion. Once this 7 day period is declared, this shall not change.

Final Examination Period  For sports that are in-season, daily and weekly hour limitations apply during the final examination period.  For sports that are out-of-season, countable athletically related activities are prohibited one week prior to final examinations. ◦ August 26, 2010

Institutional Vacation Period and Summer  Outside of the playing season, a student- athlete may not participate in any countable athletically related activities during any institutional vacation period and/or summer.  Strength and conditioning coaches may conduct workouts, provided the workouts are voluntary and conducted at the request of the student-athlete.

 Student-athlete discretionary time is time that a student-athlete may only participate in athletics activities at his discretion. The dates for discretionary time are on the “Playing and Practice Season” form in the compliance office.  There shall be no required workouts, and institutions are not permitted to recommend that student-athletes engage in weight-training or conditioning activities; however, if the student- athlete opts to workout, the strength and conditioning coach may monitor the facility in use for health and safety purposes.

 An institution shall count back from its first scheduled contest, one unit for each day beginning with the opening of classes, one unit for each day classes are not in session in the week of the first scheduled contest, and two units for each other day in the preseason practice period. ◦ Sundays are excluded from counting ◦ The first day of practice may be conducted on the day when the last practice unit occurs, which is determined by counting backward from the day of the first permissible regularly scheduled contest. For example, in women's volleyball, practice may be held on the day that the 29th practice unit actually occurs, counting backward from the day of the first permissible regularly scheduled contest.

Each day beginning with the opening day of classes. During week of first scheduled contest (6 days preceding the date of competition), each day classes are not in session. Other days in the preseason practice period. Exclude Sundays. 1 1 SUN 2
