Guide signs Guide signs. Guide signs are used to inform drivers of routes, gas, food, lodging, hospitals, rest areas and others. Guide signs are designated by color and shape.

Question Are all speed limit signs white and black?

ANSWER NO! The white and black signs are REGULATORY. They are the legal speed limit for that road Yellow and Black signs may also have a speed limit written on it. They are ADVISORY SPEED LIMITS

Advisory Speed Limits give the SUGGESTED speed for a particular stretch of road.

SECOND QUESTION… If you choose NOT to follow the advisory limit and you are in a crash, will you be given a ticket for speeding?

ANSWER: No, the legal speed limit is the white and black sign. However, you will be ticketed for reckless driving
