Biogas plant – Machnacz Biogas plant – Machnacz

During our journey in Poland, we visited a landfill biogas plant in Machnacz. The plant produces biogas from municipal waste. The plant is not just collecting and sorting rubbish from the nearby homes but also producing biogas from the waste.

Firstly, waste is delivered in from the households. Then they select it according to the different materials.

Electrical appliances

Plastic bottles are selected by their colours.( white or green)

GlassCans

FurnitureWood

PaperCartons( juice)

There is a landfill site for the disposal waste materials. There are some wind turbines in the background.

Here are the different operations in landfill site. In a landfill site organic waste has been rotting under the ground. Methane and other gases are produced. With special wells the gas is captured and piped to a processing facility.

Electricity generators/ Gas engines

They use the heat to warm greenhouses and to grow flowers that they sell.
