2 What is waste... It is unwanted materials -municipal solid waste
-household refuse -hazardous waste  -wastewater -radioactive waste

3 Types of waste... Biodegradable Non Biodegradable

4 What is Biogas... Is a gas which is produced by the biological breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen (LFG). It is generated through the process of anaerobic digestion or the fermentation of biodegradable materials such as biomass, manure, sewage, municipal waste, rubbish dumps, septic tanks, green waste and energy crops. This type of biogas comprises primarily methane and carbon dioxide.

5 LPG and LFG Gases... LPG Gas- Liquefied petroleum gas
-LPG is prepared by refining petroleum or "wet" natural gas, and is almost entirely derived from fossil fuel sources, being manufactured during the refining of petroleum (crude oil), or extracted from petroleum or natural gas streams as they emerge from the ground. ( Propane C3H8 and Butane C4H10) LFG – Landfill Gas -LFG is produced by wet organic waste decomposing under anaerobic conditions in a landfill. (Methane CH4 and C02)

6 Biogas plant...

7 A Mini-biogas plant...

8 Uses of Biogas... Can be used as a relatively low-cost fuel for generation of energy and heating purposes For cooking and heating As an illuminant for domestic and street lighting using gas lantern. For running tube-well and water pump-set engines Biogas can be compressed, similar to natural gas, and is able to be used to power motor vehicles

9 Biogas gadgets... Biogas Lantern/Light Biogas heater

10 Biogas gadgets... Biogas 1 plate stove Biogas 2 plate stove

11 Advantages of using Biogas...
Renewable Source of Energy: biogas is considered to be a renewable source of energy. Since it often produced from materials that form sewage and waste products, the only time it will be depleted is when we stop producing any waste. Non-Polluting: It is considered to be non-polluting in nature. The production of biogas does not require oxygen, which means that resources are conserved by not using any further fuel. Reduces Landfills: It also uses up waste material found in landfills, dump sites and even farms across the country, allowing for decreased soil and water pollution. Cheaper Technology: Applications for biogas are increasing as the technology to utilize it gets better. It can be used to produce electricity and for the purpose of heating as well. Production can be carried out through many small plants or one large plant.

12 Advantages..... Large number of Jobs: work opportunities are created for thousands of people in these plants. Little Capital Investment: Biogas are easy to set up and require little capital investment on a small scale basis. Reduces Greenhouse Effect: It also reduces the greenhouse effect by utilizing the gases being produced in landfills as forms of energy.

13 Advantages... Efficient way of energy conversion (saves fuel wood).
Saves women and children from drudgery of collection and carrying of firewood, exposure to smoke in the kitchen, and time consumed for cooking and cleaning of utensils.  Leads to improvement in the environment, and sanitation and hygiene.

14 Advantages.... Household wastes and bio-wastes can be disposed of usefully and in a healthy manner. Anaerobic digestion inactivates pathogens and parasites, and is quite effective in reducing the incidence of water borne diseases Provides a source for decentralized power generation.

15 14 Ways to reduce waste... Donate Clothes Reduce Food Waste
Eat Healthy: Buy healthier foods that don’t require as much disposable waste in the form of packaging. Save Leftovers for Next Day: Buy Things With Less Packaging Boycott Plastic Water Bottles Just Don’t Buy as Much Stuff….Really

16 8. Recycle 9. Purchase Items Made From Recycled Products 10. Clean Smarter 11. Composting 12. Reuse 13. Buy rechargeable batteries 14. Buy Items Packaged in Recycled Cartons
