-Infidelity

The target audience for our film ‘Infidelity’ will be aimed at mainly young adults/adults. Although our film will be predominantly aimed at males due to our general narrative of violence, drugs and revenge, I believe our strong female lead, will also attract a female audience too. Our film wont appeal to people younger than 18, due to the explicit violence, and hard drug abuse.

Target Audience This is the intended group of people to be the main audience of media. In film, it is the group of people who are most likely to watch the film and consume other promotional material surrounding it. This is the specific primary audience, then there is a secondary off shoot audience who the producers know will also consume the product, but who aren’t fully intended to.

Target Audience for Crime Genre- Gender Typically Crime films are aimed at the male gender. This is because of the frequent use of vast action, violence and stereotypically male matter, such as cars and guns. The main protagonists in Crime films have historically been strong, dominant men, so appeal to a male audience. However more and more frequently we are seeing stronger female leads, such as in Quentin Tarantino’s Postmodern film, ‘Kill Bill’

Target Audience for Crime Genre - Age Due to the regular use of violence, bad morale and often sex, nearly all Crime/ Crime hybrids will have a certificate rating of 15 and above. Because of this the films will be aimed at an audience of aged 15+. Statistics say that the majority of people who go to the cinema are aged between 15 and 24, and so producers will usually aim their films directed towards these ages to increase revenue.

Marketing & Production -Marketing is crucial to a film’s success. -Marketing is done through Film Distribution companies and often matches production budgets. -Film Distribution is often referred to as ‘The invisible art’, compared to the more creative production and exhibition parts of the film industry chain; but is arguably the most important part of the film industry. Film Production Film Distribution Film Exhibition -Distributors must clearly identify their target audience and inform them when the film is about to be released. -Box office takings over the first weekend of the release of a film are crucial to cover the huge cost of production.

Target Audience: When deciding the target audience for 'Infidelity', we had to research certification for our trailer. This meant that our target audience would be restricted, because of the dark and explicit themes that are within the narrative of our film. After researching certification on the BBFC website, we discovered that our film would be rated 18. Here is a screen shot of the BBFC website, and the reasons for the certification: No theme is prohibited at 18. Adults are free to pick their own entertainment within the law, so it is possible some themes tackled at 18 may be offensive even to some adult viewers. -What sort of issues might I find in an 18 film or DVD? -18 works are for adults and can contain strong issues such as: *very strong violence* *frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***') and/or very strong language (e.g. ‘c***’)* *strong portrayals of sexual activity* *scenes of sexual violence* *strong horror* *strong blood and gore* *real sex (in some circumstances)* *discriminatory language and behaviour* (I have highlighted the themes in red that apply to our film)

Marketing and Promotion for our Film: To market our film, we have researched a number of different methods that other films of the same genre did in order to promote them to their target audience. After researching the marketing and promotion for Brian De Palma's 'Scarface', in which there were numerous competitions to travel to Miami with cash prizes etc. Therefore, we can take this idea and use it for our marketing and promotion. For example we feature clubbing in our film and could arrange for VIP passes to certain clubs and an all expenses paid hotel in Brighton. However, being a ‘low budget’ film, we will have to be careful, and make sure we do not throw away any money. Furthermore, we can use viral marketing through social media sites such as: *Facebook *Twitter *Tumblr *Instagram We will also include: *Posters *Merchandise etc
