Eastbrook Middle School Annual Title I Parent Meeting August 21, 2014

Eastbrook Middle A Title I School Title I funding is federal money given to school districts based on the number of low-income families in each district. EMS receives Title I funding to improve academic achievement for all students. EMS involves parents in the educational process.

Title I Budget Provides teacher funding which reduces the student-teacher ratio Provides teacher funding for additional staff to improve student achievement and parent involvement Provides teacher training in the latest methods and approaches Provides funding for additional classroom technology and resources

Title I Budget Paying for extra teachers (2.5) to lower class sizes Purchasing the services of and Instructional Coach Hiring a full-time Bilingual Parent Involvement Coordinator Providing professional development opportunities to staff Buying technology Parent Resource Center

Title I Schoolwide Requirements Notify parents about the school’s policy. Hold an annual Title I parent meeting Involve parents  School-Parent Compact Offer meetings at various times Involve parents in planning, review, and implementation of Title I programs and documents.  Parent Involvement Policy Provide information about state standards and curriculum and how parents can monitor their child’s progress.

Parent Involvement Policy The Parent Involvement Policy is a comprehensive document that outlines how parents can be involved in the school program. The Parent Involvement Policy is in your Parent/Student handbook and on Eastbrook’s website.

School-Parent Compact The School-Parent Compact is a document that lists the responsibilities of each person in creating the highest probability of success for the student. Every year we invite you to work with us in revising it to meet our ever-changing needs. It is send home in October.

Highly Qualified Staff The staff at Eastbrook Middle School is highly qualified.

EMS Parents’ Right to Know Parents have the right to request information concerning the qualifications of teachers and paraprofessionals who work with their children.

Parents and Schools as Partners Parents have the right to request opportunities for regular meetings for parents to make suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children. The school must respond to any such suggestions from parents as soon as practicably possible.

Parent Portal To have access to the Parent Portal you need to have a username and password. If you don’t have one you must come to the school and personally ask for the activation key from one of our counselors, Mr. Elakman or Mrs. Ollis. When you have created your username and password you will have access to the parent portal by clicking on the following link that is available on the Whitfield County Schools website and the Parent Resource Center website emsparentresourcenter.weebly.com that you accessed today in the section, “Tips for Parents.”
