4 What is Title I? Title I is the largest federal assistance program for our nation’s schools. The goal of Title I is a higher quality of education for every child. Its purpose is to address the academic needs of students and to assist them in meeting their state’s academic standards. The program serves millions of children in public elementary and secondary schools each year including eligible students in private schools.

5 How Title I Works The federal government provides funding to states each year for the Title I program. The Florida Department of Education sends the money to our district, Pinellas County Schools. The school district identifies eligible schools and distributes the Title I funds to the school. Pinellas Central implements a school-wide program, all students benefit from the supplemental services provided by Title I.

6 Title I Programs Provide Supplemental Support Smaller classes Additional teachers Additional training for school staff Extra time for instruction (Before and/or after school programs); Parental Involvement Activities A variety of supplemental teaching materials and/or equipment

7 Title I Budget Pinellas Central is provided $ 191,998.80 to pay for services and programs for our students. The Title I Parent Involvement budget is 4,500.00 We use our Title I funds to pay for the following: Title I teachers, MTSS Coach, Literacy Coach, Intervention materials in Reading & Math

8 Title I Budget-Parent Input Parents can assist in deciding how to use Title I funds…you have the right to be involved. All Title I schools must maintain documentation that demonstrates parent input into their budgets and plans. Every school has a School Advisory Council (SAC) composed of parents, teachers, other staff members. Input from the Principal, School Advisory Council, parents, and the school’s staff determines how to use Title I funds.

9 Parent’s Right to Know As a Title I parent you have the right to be involved in the development of the following plans and documents for our school: School Improvement Plan (SIP) Compact Parent Involvement Plan (PIP) for the school and district *Please review these documents and attend meetings or complete surveys to share your input…we need and want you to be involved.

10 Parent’s Right to Know Be provided information on your child’s level of achievement on assessments in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Science Request and receive information on the qualifications of your child’s teacher and other teachers that are working with your child Be informed if your child is taught by a non-highly qualified teacher for four or more consecutive weeks.

11 School Data From 2013-2014 Pinellas Central is currently a “C” school according to state of Florida School Accountability System. Strategies to increase student achievement include: Full-time Literacy and RTI Coach Part-time Math and Science Coaches Science Lab and STEM AVID Elementary–Initial implementation year Extended Learning Program Monthly Teacher Professional Development Series Check and Connect – Student School Connection Program New Teacher Mentoring Program

12 School Public Accountability Report Card (SPAR) School Public Accountability Report (SPAR) provides parents and the community with important information about each public school Demographic data School safety and climate for learning information Academic data Graduation rates Class sizes Teacher and staff information Curriculum and instruction descriptions Postsecondary preparation information Available at the school office or online at http://doeweb-prd.doe.state.fl.us/eds/nclbspar/index.cfm

13 Educational Standards Florida Standards identify what your child needs to know and be able to do in all content areas. You may read more information by visiting, www.fldoe.org.www.fldoe.org Also, your child’s teacher will be able to explain the standards for your child’s grade level.

14 School’s Curriculum Graded Periods On Your Child’s Report Card Include: Language Arts Mathematics Science Social Studies Health Art, Music, & Physical Education

15 Measuring Student Success A Variety of Testing Methods Will Be Utilized That Could Include: Running Records and IRAs FAIR –FS Testing (3 times per year) Formal Assessments Teacher observations Regular weekly or bi-weekly progress checks for students struggling to meet reading expectations. SAT-10 Norm Referenced Assessment (Grades 1 & 2) State Adopted Assessments (Grades 3 rd -5 th )

16 Working together! Title I requires that all Title I schools and families work together. How we work together is listed in our: School Level Parental Involvement Plan (PIP) Parent-School Compact School Improvement Plan (SIP) Parents can also read the District’s Parent Involvement Plan (LEA PIP) at www.pcsb.org under Title I. A hard copy is available at our Title I Parent Station in the Front Lobby Area.www.pcsb.org

17 Parent-School Compact It is agreement between the parent, student, and school to encourage the highest student achievement. Please see the front of your student’s agenda. Please review and sign your child’s Compact, then return it to your child’s teacher.

18 Parent Involvement Plan (PIP) Requirements Involve parents in a meaningful way in the development, implementation, and review of the parental involvement programs. Your invited to attend any SAC or PTA meeting to be involved in the PIP or provide feedback. See our monthly school newsletter and marquee for meeting dates and times. The PIP will be finalized in October will be located at the Title I Parent Station in the Front Lobby.

19 Provides parents of Title I students with timely information about Title I programs. Information will communicated via the agenda, the marquee, telephone messages, monthly newsletters and school website What works for you? Let us know how we can assist you! Share a love of learning Read to your child Ask your child to read to you Limit TV time Visit the Title I Family Resource Library Review the Compact throughout the year Keep Portal info up to date Volunteer Show interest in your child’s school day Ask her/him questions Check homework Praise their efforts Encourage good study habits Communicate with the teachers and other staff Attend workshops/conferences Participate in giving your input for our SIP, PIP, and budget

22 Title I Parent Station Our school’s Title I Parent Station is located in the Front Lobby. You will find a copy of our School’s PIP, the School District’s PIP, Parent’s Right to Know Memo, Upcoming Events, Compact, and any other pertinent documents in the Title I Parent Station.

23 Parent Advisory Council (PAC) The District has a Parent Involvement Plan. The Parent Advisory Council is responsible for reviewing and revising it. PAC meets with the District’s Title I Family Education Specialist. PAC meets twice a year, if you are interested in representing our school please notify, Kari Koser.

24 Title I Family Library All Title I families may visit the Title I Library located at 2499 25 th Street South St. Petersburg, FL A great place to check out books and games… you don’t need a library card and no there are no late fees. Each time your child visits the library they will receive a FREE BOOK!
