Animation Your Task

You must work in pairs. One of you will read these instruction and explain them, while the other person carries them out. Discuss the questions between yourselves.

Over the next few slides you need to find out about.. Opening up a new animation Objects Animation Toolbar Frame Toolbar Cloning Onion Skins

To open up new animation Click on Start > All Programs > Serif Suite > DrawPlus 8 Click on “Start from Scratch” then click on “Animations ” and choose “Landscape” then choose “Banner Ad” Click on the Gallery drop down menu, select Shape Art > SMILIES Choose a Smiley, Drag it over to the banner.

Objects The smiley is the “object” you will work on Click on the smiley, you will see the handles (blue lines) Shrink the smiley so it fits on your banner

Animation toolbar Find the animation tool bar (it’s at the bottom of the page). Move your mouse over the icons to see what they do. Click on “clone frame”. Now drag the smiley to the middle. Click on “clone frame" again and drag the smiley to the end.

Onion Skins Click on the onion What can you see happening to your frame? Now set the number of the onion to 2. What can you see now? What does onion skinning do? What does the number do?

Frame Toolbar Click on the different frames. What can you see? Change the number of the onion skin to practice using frames and onion skins.

Cloning You have already cloned a frame. Cloning reproduces the previous frame. It is a quick way of adding the next picture in the sequence. Make sure you are on the right frame that you want to clone!!

Test your Animation Move your mouse over the Animation toolbar, find the play button and click it. What do you see? How would you make the image move more smoothly across the banner? How would you make the image appear to “bounce” around the banner.

Now you can make your own “smiley” Animation!!!

Export your animation as a GIF file. This will allow you to show it on different applications, e.g. a power point slide, a web page or even on your phone! When you have finished click on FILE > Export >Export as Image Finally insert the GIF file onto an a power point and using your APP Grid; annotate it and evaluate the animation ( you will not see the animation moving until you play the slide show.) 1. Then in the Format drop down menu select Animated GIF 2. Check the Transparancy box to make the background see-through. 4. click Export and save it to My Pictures.
