What are Apprenticeships? Government sponsored development initiatives that provide a nationally recognised qualification. Made up of a job-specific NVQ plus functional skills Available to anyone at any stage of their career, and no previous qualifications are necessary. NVQ units relate to the main parts of the job. You need to be able to demonstrate the skills and standards described in each of the units.

What’s in it for me? The opportunity to gain a recognised qualification You can learn and develop whilst carrying out your role A robust support structure is provided to assist with your learning

How do I achieve an Apprenticeship? Whole framework usually takes 12 months, depending on level of qualification Individual needs to complete the following elements which vary depending on role and type of qualification  Employee Rights and Responsibilities  Essential skills in English, Maths, (ICT)  NVQ units  Technical Certificate Monthly assessor visits are carried out Evidence can be gathered in a number of ways:-

How to gather evidence…. The assessor watches you carry out tasks that form part of your job role. The assessor asks you questions to check your knowledge and understanding. You show the assessor work you have produced as part of your role. Feedback from you or your line manager about what you have done/can do. You complete an assignment, project work or case study.

What is expected from me? The desire to complete the qualification The commitment to achieve your learning objectives agreed with your manager/assessor at the start of your qualification The drive to complete the tasks set by your assessor/training advisor at each visit The ability to challenge others who are not providing the support you require to achieve your qualification Be open to feedback Be willing to identify potential problems/blockers to success to the appropriate people in a timely manner Be willing to discuss and overcome personal blockers to success

Who will support me? Line Manager Assessor Mentor/Colleague

What happens next? Tell your manager that you want to complete a qualification Contact esg who will arrange for an assessor to contact you and arrange a sign up appointment All learning is job related and will be carried out mainly whilst you are doing your role Your progress will be monitored monthly by your assessor and line manager You receive a certificate for each element you successfully complete and an overall certificate for the full framework
