Oogenesis and Ovulation Each ovary contain approximately follicles (contain egg and release estrogen) at puberty. Between the ages of eggs will mature. At menopause, only a few follicles remain and this marks the end of reproductive life. Meiosis 1 occurs during ovulation, meiosis 11 occurs after ovulation. Ovulation – Release of egg from follicle Corpus Luteum – mass of follicle within ovary that releases estrogen and progesterone.
