Advanced Placement Through AP's college-level courses and exams in high school, students can earn college credit and advanced placement standing. Most four-year colleges in the United States and colleges in more than 60 other countries give students credit, advanced placement or both on the basis of AP Exam scores.

Articulated Credit College credit that is available through a written agreement (Bi-Lateral Articulation Agreement) between a secondary school and a college. Articulated Credit is awarded to students who successfully complete a high school course/program, meet the requirements of the Articulation Agreement and matriculate on to the college partner. This credit is typically not easily transferrable between institutions as it is a unique agreement between two institutions.

By Pass Credit Students that score well on By Pass tests or course may be advanced to the second, third… course in any given subject area. For example, after passing the language course in which a student is placed with a specific score, the student receives credit for all preceding courses. By Pass testing is available in various subject areas depending on the institution.

CLEP – College Level Exam Program  Credit-by-examination program is a national program serving a diverse group of students, including adults, non- traditional learners, and military service members  More than seven million exams taken since 1967  1,700+ colleges administer CLEP  211,000 exams administered in 2009–10, including 76,500 administered to military service members

Credit By Exam Students may receive credit for an course by taking an examination in place of the actual course. Some exams can be taken prior to admission.

CTAG – Career Technical Assurance Guides CTAGs are groups of technical courses that represent a commonly accepted pathway to an associate degree. Courses or course sequences identified as being a part of the CTAG may be accepted at any approved public higher education institution in Ohio.

Dual Enrollment Dual Enrollment allows qualified students to earn college credit prior to high school graduation. Typically, a dual enrollment program as one that offers college courses to high school students: in the high school, during the qualified regular school day, taught by qualified, trained high school teachers.

Early College High School Early college high school is a bold approach, based on the principle that academic rigor, combined with the opportunity to save time and money, is a powerful motivator for students to work hard and meet serious intellectual challenges. Early college high schools blend high school and college in a rigorous yet supportive program, compressing the time it takes to complete a high school diploma and the first two years of college. The schools are designed so that low-income youth, first-generation college goers, English language learners, students of color, and other young people underrepresented in higher education can simultaneously earn a high school diploma and an Associate’s degree or up to two years of credit toward a Bachelor’s degree—tuition free.

Military Credit Since the introduction of Ohio GI Promise, all 36 Ohio public colleges and universities are now members of the Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium. The University System of Ohio is committed to the acceptance and awarding of college credit for training and experience in the United States Armed Forces or National Guard, as long as it has been approved by the American Council on Education or a regional accrediting body, such as the Higher Learning Commission.Ohio GI Promise acceptance and awarding of college credit for training and experience

Post Secondary Enrollment The Postsecondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP) was created by the Ohio Legislature to allow students to enroll in a college or university to earn both college and high school credit. There are institution-specific requirements that students must meet in order to be granted admission to a PSEOP program.

Prior Learning Credit Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) is a term used to describe learning gained outside a traditional academic environment. Put another way, it’s learning and knowledge your students acquire while living their lives: working, participating in employer training programs, serving in the military, studying independently, volunteering or doing community service, and studying open source courseware. PLA is the evaluation and assessment of an individual’s life learning for college credit, certification, or advanced standing toward further education or training.

TAG – Transfer Assurance Guides TAGs are groups of foundational courses that represent a commonly accepted pathway to the Bachelor’s degree. Courses or course sequences identified as being a part of the TAG may be offered at any public higher education institution in Ohio. TAGs are being developed to assist students in approximately 40 different degree pathways.
