3 Types of Postsecondary Education Certificate Program- less than 2 years Associates Degree- 2 years Bachelors Degree- 4 years **DE can assist in accomplishing each of these options!

4 House Bill 1184 Virginia legislature mandating school districts working with community colleges to create pathways for H.S. students to complete college credit/certificates of study while in high school

6 What is Dual Enrollment?  An enrichment program that allows eligible high school students the opportunity to take courses in high school and college at the same time  An enrichment program that allows eligible high school students the opportunity to take courses in high school and college at the same time  NOVA college courses may fulfill Virginia high school graduation requirements and begin a college transcript towards a degree or certificate program

7 What are the Benefits?  Opportunity to take challenging courses and accelerate their secondary and post secondary education  Facilitates a seamless transition from high school to college  Gives students confidence in their abilities to meet college challenges  Begins work towards Virginia’s General Education Certificate or other college certificate program

8 Dual Enrollment Vocabulary: Concurrent (choose from already PWCS articulated courses): When students are earning both high school and college credit for a course. 13 Guaranteed Admissions Agreements (GAA) NOVA has a Guaranteed Admission Agreement (GAA) program available to all its students who graduate from NOVA and meet the agreement requirements of the college or university. The program gives you an opportunity to save thousands in tuition costs. Agreements stand with over 63 VA and DC colleges and universities. Specific agreements can be found at nvcc.edu

14 Will the Courses Transfer to Other Colleges and Universities? 15 Who is Eligible to Participate and What are the Requirements?  Junior and senior high school students  Must get a satisfactory score on the college placement test or approved alternatives (SAT, ACT, PSAT, SOL’s)  Must complete the appropriate dual enrollment permission form with necessary signatures

17 Application Process 1.Discuss your options with parents and/or counselor; if planning to take college English or Political Science courses, talk with your current teacher about this option 2.Apply to NOVA online using full legal name which will allow you to get a NOVA Student ID number and access to a NOVA email account 3.Obtain a permission form from the counseling office and get all needed signatures 4.Take the college placement test given at Battlefield 5.Register for the dual enrollment course(s) during course selection with your counselor
