The EUREF Campus in Berlin - the living lab for the “Energiewende”

InnoZ is a hybrid institute with five shareholders from industry and science Founding of InnoZ in 2006 Five equal shareholders (one vote per shareholder) Approx. 80 employees Headquarters in Berlin, branch offices in Munich & London Social Science Center Berlin German Aeronautics and Space Research Centre DB Mobility Logistics AG T-Systems International GmbH Siemens AG Practice Research Applied Research Industry Science Hybrid Institute

Our focus is user-centric interconnection Our aim is to develop innovations for tomorrow’s mobility Systemic, integrated solutions are needed  Networked, intermodal transport  Integrated information and communication technology applications  Integration with power generation

time Load Renewable Energies need storage capacities

The Idea behind Vehicle-2-Grid

A private car stands still for 23 hours a day. In comparison about 85,000 cars would represent this capacity. There are around 2 million passenger cars in Ireland. What is the potential of V2G? Ireland has a bulk energy storage capacity of about 300 MW.

Double Benefit Storag e Mobility V2G facilitates a great range of business models

Car batteries can serve as an active component of the grid

„Micro Macro“ – a Bottom up approach to the Smart Grid of the future DSO

Innovationszentrum für Mobilität und gesellschaftlichen Wandel 12 The Micro Smart Grid at the EUREF-Campus

630 kVA Transformer Intelligent main switch board Stationary Grid-buffer batteries Lead-Gel 150 kWh / 18 kW Li-Ion 26 kWh / 40 kW SuperCap 3 kWh/ 15 kW Four PV arrays approx. 73 kWp Four vertical wind turbines 4,8 kW Different charging infrastructure Operating eCarsharing-Fleet 28 simultaneous chargings possible Significant expansion in 2014 (in execution) The Micro Smart Grid is a closed distribution grid in full operation

One third of our demand in 2013 was covered by local RES

ICT – Systems are often underestimated It takes an interdisciplinary "appointee" Innovation-cycles are faster than regulation A common place accelerates consortia New concepts and technologies may overstrain externals Innovative projects need a demo-component Lessons learned at the Living Lab
