Checking your Grades Instructor - Registrar’s Office – LORIS and Web Advisor To view Grades on LORIS: Student Services, Student Records Unofficial Record of Coursework Official Final Grades To view Grades on Web Advisor: Students, Academic Profile Unofficial Transcript Summary of Grades

Grading System A+ 12 (90-100) A 11 (85-89) A- 10 (80-84) B+ 9 (77-79) B 8 (73-76) B- 7 (70-72) C+ 6 (67-69) C 5 (63-66) C- 4 (60-62) D+ 3 (57-59) D 2 (53-56) D- 1 (50-52) F 0 (0-49) XF* 0 (final exam not written – failed course) DR (dropped after academic deadline – failed course)

Calculating your GPA For purposes of calculation, the grade point (GP) earned in a 0.5 credit will be given half the weight of that earned in 1.0 credit.grade pointGPcredit For example, a student with an A (11.0) in a 1.0 credit course, a C- (2.0) in a 0.5 credit course will receive a GPA of 8.67 (13.0 grade points divided by 1.5 credits)

Example A in RE212* (1 credit course) = 11 C- in CT121 (0.5 credit course) = credits total divided by 1.5 credits = 8.67

WLU On-line GPA Calculator You can use this on-line tool to calculate your Laurier GPA

Understanding your GPA WLU and NU GPAs are separate. Grades are not combined (Note: exception: SOCI 2091, SOCI 2092 and PSYC 2020) The GPA is cumulative. It is calculated from the beginning of entry into the university and is adjusted with each course and each semester.

Progression Requirements Laurier GPA includes all WLU courses, cross- registration, letter of permission, NU2020 and NU2091, NU % overall (7.0 or B-) to progress Minimum Honours GPA of 5.0 (*7.0 required to graduate) Nipissing GPA includes all Education courses 70% overall with a minimum 60% in each course Successful completion of Practicum

Contemporary Studies Minors Need a 4.5 average in courses counting towards the minor Honours Need a 5.0 average in your Honours CT courses to progress, a 7.0 to graduate 7.0 overall

Progression Policy You must maintain an overall GPA of 7.0 each year, in both your Wilfrid Laurier (BA) courses, and Nipissing (BEd) courses. This average is cumulative, so will include all courses taken. You will also need to pass the “Observation and Practice Teaching” course to continue in the program. To progress in your Honours program, you require a minimum Honours GPA of 5.0. To graduate, you require a minimum Honours GPA of 7.0.

Academic Probation Nipissing Overall Laurier GPA is between 6.0 and 7.0 (67%-69%). You may progress into the next year “on probation” Probation is for one year (April-April) You may only be on probation once Option to take summer courses Laurier Overall GPA between 2.0 and 4.0 Probation period continues until you have completed 4.0 credits. After taking 4 credits, if you have not reached an overall GPA of 4.0, you will be forced to withdraw from the university.

Timelines Progression is assessed every 4.0 credits (at the end of each academic year) January: Caution letter will be ed to students who are below a 7.0 GPA *Note: This does not mean you are on probation January-April: Appointments with Academic Advisors- how can you raise your GPA? April/May: Progression will be assessed and probation letters will be ed to students who are below a 7.0 GPA

How can I raise my GPA?

Repeat Courses Can retake up to a maximum of 2.0 credits in degree The retake grade will replace the previous grade in your GPA First attempt stays on your transcript Can only retake a course once

Example CT111 A CT121 B+ PS101 D PS102 F EN121 C- CT/CO243 A+ CO244 A- EN120 C =28.0 /4.0=6.75
