The Meditation: PASTOR: Lord, your last words were about the world. PEOPLE: Beginning in Jerusalem, your disciples had before them a global missionary challenge. They took the challenge, evangelizing into modern day Russia, India, Afghanistan and Persia, Northern Africa and Asia Minor, as far away as Britain – all dying as martyrs to fulfill the mission. PASTOR: We see the church – our church, our comfortable church, as the building or campus. You see beyond the mere meeting place - you see the city, the region, the lost and the world. PEOPLE: We think “us!” You think “them - others” through us. We see our tight circle. You see an outward and inclusive circle. We proclaim “our church”, and you counter - “my church”. We pray, “Bless us!” You “… bless us that we might be a blessing to others.” Church of God World Missions/Church of God Prayer Ministries –

The Meditation: PASTOR: We want more people – just a few - to attend our church, keeping it small and personal. PEOPLE: You want us to be realize that the church is not only here for us – we are the church and we are here for the city and for the world. PASTOR: We pray for our Jerusalem, our Judea – regional influence. For the ‘Samaritans’ – to be ethnically diverse. Stretch our wineskin. Call us to be a global church. To see the whole world, to weep for the nations, to pray for an international spiritual awakening. People: Make us global Christians, Lord. The Profile … The Pech (also called Payas or Payitas) means “people" but only ‘Pech Peoples’. Anyone else is “Pech-Hakua" which means "Other People.“ Originally they lived on the Honduran coast of La Moskitia but were chased by the Spanish conquistadors and Miskitos into the rainforest. Thousands died. Only a few of these people remain, primarily in 9 communities. They are bounded by rivers marking their natural borders. They are chiefly agricultural. The Profile … The old tribal structures are almost gone. Their language is dying. About half still speak the ethnic dialogue. With the loss of language, culture disappears rapidly. There is increasing intermarriage with other peoples. The current generation may be the last generation of this people group. They have no Bible, only audio Christian aids. Many are nominally Christian, mostly a mix of Catholicism and tribal religion – few are evangelical. Traditionally, the worshipped the spirit of the mountains, the spirit owners of animals, and the mermaid who cares for the fish. Prayer … That God would visit this small dying tribe – and that the elders would experience an encounter with Christ. That the superficial version of Christianity, mixed with native beliefs, would prove inadequate and thrust them as a people into the presence of God. That in their increasing connections with the outside world, that by marriage or association – the entire tribe would be introduced to Christ in a fresh way. Pray for resources – access to a Bible, more Christian audio recordings, videos. Pray for the 4,000 or so Pech peoples who need Jesus.
