MORE THAN “MERE MEN” Pine Grove Church of Christ – 03/27/11

More than “Mere Men”  I Corinthians 3:1-3 –  (NKJ) “are you not carnal and behaving like mere men”  (KJ) “are you not carnal and walk as men”  (ESV) “are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way”  (NIV) “… are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men”

Being the Temple of God  I Corinthians 3:16-17 –  “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”

Being the Temple of God  A Dwelling Place for God

A Dwelling Place for God  Ephesians 2:19-22 –  “grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”  I Peter 1:13-15 –  “but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct”

A Dwelling Place for God  Colossians 3:12-17 –  “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering”  Galatians 5:19-23 –  “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”

Being the Temple of God  A Dwelling Place for God  Dedicated for God’s Service

Dedicated for God’s Service  Romans 12:1-2 –  “that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

Dedicated for God’s Service  Philippians 1:19-21 –  “but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or be death.”

Dedicated for God’s Service  Mark 11:15-17 –  “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”

Being the Temple of God  A Dwelling Place for God  Dedicated for God’s Service  Glorifying God

Glorifying God  I Corinthians 6:19-20 –  “For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s”

Glorifying God  Ephesians 1:3-14 –  “to the praise of the glory of His grace”  (6, 12, 14)

Glorifying God  Matthew 5:14-16 –  “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Conclusion  God does not want us to be like “Mere Men”.  We are to be the Temple of God A Dwelling Place for God Dedicated for God’s Service Glorifying God

Conclusion  II Corinthians 6:16 –  “For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”

God’s Plan of Salvation  Hear the Word of God (Acts 2:22)  Believe in Jesus (Acts 16:30-34)  Repent of Sins (Acts 2:38)  Confess Faith in Christ (Acts 8:37)  Be Baptized in Water (Acts 2:38)  Remain Faithful & Grow(II Peter 3:18)  If err, repent and pray to God (I John 1:9)

Lord’s Supper  Partaking of the Bread:  I Peter 2:24 –  “who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness— by whose stripes you were healed.”

Lord’s Supper  Partaking of the Fruit of the Vine:  Ephesians 1:7 –  “In Him (Christ) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace”
