Objectives Students will: Use articles and demonstrative adjectives correctly. Proofread for correct articles and demonstrative adjectives.

Definitions Articles –A special kind of adjectives. –They include: a, an, the. “A” & “An” refer to any person, place, or thing. “The” refers to a particular person, place, or thing.

Rules Use “a” before singular words that begin with a consonant sound. –A jet –A high step –A clock –A Christmas tree

Rules Use “an” before singular words that begin with a vowel sound. –An apple –An engine –An octopus –An elephant –An hour The “h” is silent

Rules Demonstrative Adjectives –It tells “which one.” –This, that, these and those are demonstrative adjectives.
