Literacy RWI will continue as appropriate for children on the programme. For those who have moved onto Language and Literacy, we will be looking at fantasy stories with a focus on the text Chocolate Planning. For non-fiction, we will be looking at information texts, as well as looking at some grammar. We will continue with our other weekly Literacy activities such as Big Writing, Handwriting and Spellings. Science In Science this half term we will be learning about electricity. We will be looking at what objects require electricity, and how to keep ourselves safe around it. We will also look at how to create a simple circuit. Geography This half term the class are going to be exploring their local area. We will find Burnham on a map, look at where we live and our routes to school, see how the village has changed over time, go on a trip to see the ‘sights’ of Burnham and finally create a pamphlet to tell the world all about our village. Music This half term our Music express module is “Sounds Interesting’- exploring sounds. Additionally, the children will continue to listen to, and appreciate, various pieces of classical music including Grieg, Beethoven and Rachmaninov. RRS Article 31: You have the right to experience a wide range of cultural activities. Art/DT This half term we will be finishing off designing and making our dog puppets for a purpose. We will also learn about the painting technique of pointillism by looking at the work of Seurat RRS Article 29: You have the right to develop your practical skills to the best of your abilities

PE/Games We will continue the Summer Term by doing Athletics in games. We are continuing with dance in indoor lessons. Remember Key Stage 1 Sports Day is coming up this half term! The children will be practising hard to be the best they can be for this event. RRS Article 24: You have the right to be healthy and to participate in lots of activities that help you stay healthy. PSHE/RRS In PSHE this term we will be continuing to look at our UNICEF rights as well a learning all about keeping our money safe. RE This half term we will be looking at places of worship, such as different kinds of churches, mosques, temples, synagogues and gudwaras. We will read more stories from the Bible, such as Zaccheus and the story of Daniel and the Lions RRS Article 14: You have the right to choose and practise your own religion; we respect the religion and beliefs of others. ICT Year 2 will be using ICT to design posters and use the internet to research topics. They will also continue with Scratch coding where they will create interactive maps of their local environment. In addition, year 2 will be using Google Earth/Maps to explore the locality. They will be learning how to add photographs (taken themselves) onto the maps.
