Welcome.. …to Academic Primary Care Associates. We are the premier primary care/D.O. residency program in South West Virginia. Our new and established patients alike find that partnering with their doctor which includes every aspect of treatment supports and enhances high-quality, cost-efficient care. Were a certified Patient Centered Medical Home where the focus is on you, the patient.

How are we different from other family practices?  APCA is a family practice/residency. While providing state of the art care we are also teaching the physicians of tomorrow. Questions you may have about APCA, our physicians and residents.

What is a D.O.?  The fact is that both DOs and MDs are fully qualified physicians licensed to prescribe medication and perform surgery.  DOs combine today's medical technology with their ears to listen empathetically to their patients, with their eyes to see their patients as whole persons, and with their hands to diagnose and treat patients for injury and illness.

What is a D.O.? DOs practice a "whole person" approach to medicine. Instead of just treating you for specific symptoms or illnesses, they regard your body as an integrated whole. Osteopathic physicians focus on preventive health care.

What is a resident? Participating in a program of graduate medical education and training in a specialized area of medicine. Acts as both a student and a health care provider. Works in concert with other members of the health care team to provide direct medical care to patients.

What is a resident? Diagnoses patients’ medical problems and devises appropriate management and treatment plans. Must have a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or other acceptable final medical diploma, such as an MBBS. Supervised by more senior Residents and by attending physicians.
