Attendance First bell rings at 7:30 Arrive as early as 7:00 Your child should be through the double doors by 7:45, or they will be counted tardy. Tardiness effects perfect attendance and morning routine Absence – a note from home or doctor’s office is required upon returning to school

Academics Balanced Literacy –Reader’s Workshop Shared Reading Guided Reading Independent Reading –Writer’s Workshop Shared Writing Guided Writing Independent Writing Math Science Social Studies Assessments – observations, rubrics, and checklist Grades now include S, N, and U

Conferences Parent/Teacher conferences November 6th and 7th (these are early release days) Parents must attend to receive 1 st report card

Homework Reading – read 20 minutes each night (you and/or child) and sign homework sheet Sight Words – practice sight words we have learned Math – activities will be posted on teacher web site online and in our newsletters A homework sheet will be in your child’s folder nightly. The homework will be assigned Monday-Thursday and each day a parent’s signature or initial is required.

Awards Earned each nine weeks –Perfect attendance No absences and only 1 tardy –Citizenship –Outstanding Student The student has to be on reading level or above for the 9 weeks. (attendance, tardiness—2 tardies take away perfect attendance, and grades are part of the criteria in determining awards)

Snacks Working snack time Small healthy snack daily No candy, drinks, dairy items or snacks that require utensils Water bottles may be brought for snack and water break times. NO JUICE.

Lunch 30 minutes:10:35-11:05 or 10:40-11:10 Purchase from cafeteria or bring ready to eat lunch Children need to learn their lunch number. Cost: breakfast $1.10 and lunch is $1.80 Should parents want to eat with their child please limit it to once/week after the first week of school. After a child owes $15.00, a cold cheese sandwich and milk will be served and the charge will be.50cents. Milk is the beverage at lunch.

Specials P.E., Music, Art, Computer 50 minutes every day Tennis Shoes are required for P.E. Music, Art, P.E. give their own behavior grades. Computer class behavior is averaged in with classroom behavior grades.

BirthdaysBirthdays Allowed - Store bought cupcakes are allowed and will be eaten the last 10 minutes of class before dismissal. Not allowed – gifts, balloons, party favors, treat bags, invitations, etc. Birthday Sign up List for addresses of students due by September 5, 2014.

Uniform Dress Code Students are required to wear uniform dress at Hubenak Elementary –White, navy blue, light blue, black or red solid color collared shirt/blouse or school T-shirt, husky school shirts –Khaki, navy blue, black or blue denim jeans, pants, capris, shorts, skirts, skorts (split skirts), or jumpers –No commercial print or logos –Sweaters, jackets, hoodies, or other tops intended to be worn in the building must be solid white, navy blue, light blue, red, black, or an approved Hubenak item Solid denim jackets are allowed.

Volunteer Breakfast Will you attend our annual Parent Involvement Breakfast? Tuesday, September 9:00 a.m. Hubenak Cafeteria Come find out more about the many opportunities for you to get involved in your child’s education through volunteering at Hubenak and enjoy a yummy breakfast while you’re here! This is also a great chance to meet other parents and make connections! Some topics to be covered include:  Room Moms  Library Volunteers  Workroom Volunteers  Brown Bag (Take Home Project) Volunteers  Committees (Spring Carnival, Yearbook, Box Tops, Spirit Wear, etc.)  NEW--DADS GROUP  YOUR questions

Skyward – Family Access Starting with the school year, LCISD guardians will be able to make changes to items such as phone numbers, addresses, emergency contacts, etc., all online through the Skyward Family Access Center. Guardians will be able to make these changes through Friday, September 19. After September 19, many of those areas will be dialed back, but some areas, such as address, will always be available for changing online. There is a video on the Family Access page of the district web site that walks parents through how to make changes. This is the direct link:
