Presentation transcript:

 A game developer is a software engineer, programmer, or computer scientist who primarily develops codebase for video games or related software.  In the early years of game programming, game programmers often worked on game design to due to the limited computer design in around 1970’s

 There are about 39,700 professional game programmers and developers in north America.  In order to become a gaming programmer or developer, you need the technical skills to design, plan, write, and create video game software.  You would need to have a bachelors degree in computer science or software engineering.

 Out of all game developers and programmers, only %11.5 are women.  Gaming programmers usually work in a studio.  It takes 4-5 years to have your bachelors degree in game programming, which is what most companies require.

 The average salary of a game programmer, although it widely varies, is about $95,300 a year.  You would of course need to pay to go to college and receive your bachelors degree, which depending upon the college could be rather expensive.  VCU has a computer science program and to enroll there would be $7,860 in-state tuition and $21,275 out-state tuition.

 I’ve always wanted to be a professional athlete, (track and field which don’t make much.) but when I got to high school, my parents said I need to decide on a back-up plan, a career that I know that I could enjoy doing for possibly the rest of my life that doesn’t bore me. I eventually realized that one hobby I enjoy doing is playing video games and my crazy imagination and creativity is what lead me to this desire of being a game programmer or developer like Ed Boon, who is my role model in this career.

 I predict I would become a game programmer/developer when I graduate college with my bachelors degree in computer science.  I plan to work close to home in Virginia but unfortunately there's barely any gaming studios in Virginia and the only one would be in Fairfax Virginia but I would probably work in either Chicago with netherealm studios or in san Francisco.  I plan on using track and field to earn a scholarship to a college where I could study computer science and earn my degree.
