Alternative Energy

Fossil Fuels Fossil fuels are a very efficient way to produce energy! However… – Burning Fossil fuels creates POLLUTION. – Coal mining is dangerous and destroys the Earth’s landscape. – Fossil Fuels are NOT a renewable resource. Once we’ve burned them all, they’re gone!!

What is an alternative source of Energy? An energy source that can be used instead of fossil fuels. It is usually a renewable source of energy that could be used if fossil fuels run out!

Wind Wind turbines – modern windmills have become quite efficient and cost effective in windy areas

Solar Energy Solar panels generate electricity directly from sunlight with special materials. Solar electricity can also be generated from the sun’s heat instead of burning fossil fuels.

Water Energy Hydroelectric, wave, tide  The movement of water can be used to generate electricity!

Geothermal Energy  The thermal energy from the Earth is used to heat cities and create electricity.

Bio-mass and Biofuels  Using plant or animal materials to create energy.

Advantages of using natural sources of energy They are renewable– they will always be available They will not damage the Earth. They are clean.

What type of Alternative Energy is being used?
