Geothermal Energy by Emily Garrett How it works and how it benefits the Earth

Description Geothermal energy is the heat from the earth. This energy is renewable and is extremely easy to get to. Geothermal energy can be found in the ground, hot water or hot rock found a not far beneath the Earth’s surface, and in rocks all the way underneath the surface.

How it works in a diagram

Research and article On the website, renewable energy world.com, it goes into great detail about how geothermal energy exactly works. The author of the article states that there are many geothermal reservoirs of hot water located in the western states. The author then tells us that some of the geothermal power plants work the way they do because wells are dug underneath them so that a turbine\generator is able to use the steam from the reservoir. Most of the hot water is directly used from the Earth for its heat. (Picture next slide)

Advantages of geothermal Many advantages come with the use of geothermal energy such as not using nonrenewable resources but using stuff that is always there and easy to get to. Two of the main advantages are listed below: Using geothermal energy cost 80% less than using fossil fuels If geothermal energy is used, we would not have to rely on nonrenewable fossil fuels that will not be around forever. Pollution is not a problem at all for geothermal users. Many jobs are created from the creation of geothermal energy plants and they create huge economical benefits.

Disadvantages of geothermal Although there are many advantages to using geothermal energy, there is also many disadvantages of using it as well. The disadvantages are listed below: Geothermal energy is not available to many places. It is very expensive to install the proper equipment. Also, it is very easy for geothermal systems to run out of steam which is detrimental to the entire system. Sometimes the gases that are released, from the geothermal areas, can be harmful.

Geothermal energy marketed The future for geothermal energy is extremely high and well. Although it is not very popular, it is one of the most useful ways to get good energy in a quick amount of time. Not only is it more safe, it is also so much more effective than other types of energy. Even though it isn’t very popular right now, it is becoming more and more common than using fossil fuels and other nonrenewable sources. To get the best energy and fuel is to use the things the earth gave us and geothermal energy is one of the more crucial things the earth offers us.
