CAREER PATH… Your Senior Research Project is a direct reflection of you and the career path you wish to obtain in your life. At the conclusion of your project, you will have a portfolio that includes: your biography, your career choice information, research on an institution of higher education where you can receive your training, a college application, a financial aid application, scholarship applications, a professional resume, letter of recommendation, a letter of inquiry, and a job application. A professional job interview will also be required.

MAKE A CHOICE! TIME TO CHOOSE YOUR CAREER! What type of education is required to obtain your career choice? What are the job duties? Salary? Benefits? Drawbacks? Job outlook? Write an essay ( word document) describing your career path. Pretend that your reader doesn’t know anything about the career. Use a lot of description and be specific! ***Use “TEXAS CARES” software: World of Work> Occupation Information for your research. Read through ALL TABS before writing your essay!! *Turn in a copy of your essay to your teacher (one copy in your binder)

NOW WHAT continued… Look for and print off a college checklist of things you need to do in preparation to enroll. Feel free to create your own. Go to www.applytexas.org: download the admissions application, print off, and complete in blue/black ink. Register for the SAT/ACT or TSI. (see Mrs. Lee in CIS for assistance) Print off a Degree Plan for your particular major. How many hours and what classes will be required? Calculate the total cost: tuition and fees, include housing, if applicable.

Apply for THREE Scholarships: NOW WHAT continued… Apply for THREE Scholarships: 1. Wolfforth Lion’s Club Scholarship for Reese students 2. Frenship Foundation Scholarship (for Reese students, The link to these two scholarships can be found on the Reese homepage> Student’s tab> Senior Project – ELAR> Scholarships 3. Search for ONE additional scholarship and complete it. (Make sure you qualify and notice the deadlines.) A total of THREE scholarships is required. Read the directions carefully! Short answer questions and essays will be included as well as letters of recommendation. COMPLETED scholarship forms must be returned to your English teacher before ANY course credit is given!!!

***For those going into Military, Workforce, or Other (not going to College): 1. Complete a sample Loan Application for a new automobile. The link is on the Reese homepage >Student’s tab>Senior Project – ELAR>Loan Applications 2. Complete an application to rent or lease an apartment/ house. TURN IN BOTH OF THESE COMPLETED APPLICATIONS TO YOUR TEACHER. MAKE SURE THE APPLICATION IS COMPLETELY FILLED OUT AND ACCURATE.

Take your time and read, study, and learn all available information. Complete all Study Guides, Journals, Discussions, and Practices available.

Include three references for potential employers to be able to contact. *Turn in a copy of your resume to your teacher (one copy in your binder) *You will also need a copy of your resume when you go to the office to fill out your application for the interview. Give the copy to Mrs. Morris or Mrs. Atkins. SO…you need three copies!!!
