Introduction F More efficient use of resources (water, land, feed, labor, etc) F Shrimp and tilapia are two of the most important aquaculture products F They share many ecological characteristics, polyculture worldwide F Farm experience suggest benefits to polyculture F Opportunity to restore abandoned farms

Introduction F Conducted survey in Thailand, Vietnam, Mexico, the Philippines and the US. F Followed with field trials in Thailand and Mexico F Preliminary lab studies support field reports F Survival and growth rates improved

Reported benefits F Reduction in levels of pathogens (green Vibrios and viral infections) F Fish reduce accumulation of wastes in production units F Fish encourage beneficial algal blooms F Tilapia consume potential disease vectors, especially crustacea
