BACKGROUND In 1997, investigation on on-farm tilapia feeding strategy was the main focus of Workplan 9. In 1997, investigation on on-farm tilapia feeding strategy was the main focus of Workplan 9. Actual on-farm trials started in 1999. Actual on-farm trials started in 1999. Initially, this was a collaborative work with the University of Hawaii at Manoa with Dr. Chris L. Brown as the US PI. 3 OBJECTIVES  To reduce the cost of feed by practicing more efficient tilapia feeding strategies

A CRSP Technologies on Feeding Strategies  Delayed supplemental feeding onset  Sub-satiation supplemental feeding  Two-stage feed reduction strategy  Alternate-day supplemental feeding strategy

Brochure  A brochure on timing of providing supplemental feeds was developed through and provided to interested farmers

Outreach Attendance of twelve undergraduate students to the Third National Tilapia Congress in San Fernango City, Pampanga was considered by the students as a lasting experience for them that widens their knowledge about the tilapia industry and put them as an advantage over the rest in establishing future employment opportunities

Experiments conducted under the WP 12 Experiment 1: Nursery Rearing of Tilapia Fry in Ponds at Two Stocking Densities Experiment 2: Nursery Rearing of Tilapia Fry in Tanks Experiment 3: Culture of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) at Two Stocking Densities to Size Suitable for Tilapia Fillet Experiment 4: Use of Cast Net as Sampling Device in the Culture of Nile Tilapia in Ponds

 For the interest of wider dissemination of results, these completed experiment have been presented in various conferences and symposium locally and internationally such as the CLSU In-house Review of Completed and on-going Projects, National Tilapia Congress, the WAS Aquaculture America, ISTA, etc.)
