EMODnet Chemistry II ( ) WP5 Analysis and Recommendations WP description: inputs Specific MSFD feedback through WG-DIKE and TG DATA Additional workshops i.e. EMD-MSFD interaction Feedback from Chemistry project partners including data providers (see next presentation by Matteo) Overall EMODNet strategy developments at EU and Member States levels

EMODnet Chemistry II ( ) WP5 Analysis and Recommendations WP description: objectives Engage with MSFD stakeholders and align/revise chemical portal and products through dialogue identify key users and report on the effectiveness of the system in meeting the needs of end-users provide a summary feedback to the products work package (WP3) To establish efficient tools to obtain users feedback

INSPIRE: Marine Pilot WS (8-9 June), Copenhagen Lead: JRC Participants: DGENV, EEA, national experts (NL, DE, DK) and RSC’s -Capacity building; Training on transformation of data for INSPIRE compliance -Reporting for MSFD using INSPIRE compliant/based services

INSPIRE: Marine Pilot WS (8-9 June), Copenhagen -Would services harvested by EEA with a timestamp, be a legal reporting for MSFD? -Report to be drafted for DIKE meeting in October by EEA/DG ENV and some MS -Next meeting 5 September in the Netherlands -EMODnet Steering will meet with JRC/INSPIRE in late June

MSFD key interactions (2014/2015) Sept ’14 EMODnet – MSFD interaction meeting DGMARE, DGENV, EEA, 2 member states, OSPAR and HELCOM, EMODnet Bio, Chem and Sec -Focus was more on biological than chemical -Chemistry presented by Alessandra and ‘data product preparation’ exercise for EEA presented by Neil

MSFD key interactions (2014/2015) Sept ’14 EMODnet – MSFD interaction meeting DISCUSSIONS -Chemical buffer -Regional focus: Mediterranean -Northern RSC’s heavily invested in current systems/process. Little incentive to change in short term

MSFD key interactions (2014/2015) Feb ’15 EMODnet – MSFD interaction meeting The usual suspects -relevance of EMODnet chemistry (data) to OSPAR/HELCOM? -Concentrating on the Mediterranean and Black Sea -Appropriate information in the metadata to identify chemistry data suitable for inclusion in MSFD reporting based on QA and QC procedures

MSFD key interactions (2014/2015) Feb ’15 EMODnet – MSFD interaction meeting The usual suspects -HELCOM and OSPAR indicator specifications should identify the appropriate metadata needed -EMODnet Chemistry to report back on progress to next meeting, including possibilities to filter data on these metadata fields -Progress in developing mechanisms for accessing data from non-EMODnet partner sources.

RSC Indicators WGDIKE paper DIKE_

RSC Indicators as of June regional indicators -28 equate to D5 Eutrophication -47 equate to D8ish Contaminants -Operational status unknown for most -Most are under development, developed but not adopted or no information

Indicators elements HELCOM and OSPAR indicator specifications should identify the appropriate metadata needed
