Today we will be continuing with the elements of a good story, looking at characters. Look up the definition of character in the red glossary section in the back of your Lit book. Write the definition in your notes.

Characters the people, animals or imaginary creatures that take part in the action of a work of literature. But not all characters are created equal are they?

Think of some characters in movies or books that you have read. Write a 3-5 sentence paragraph detailing your favorite character and what made him / her memorable.

Protagonist t he main character in a literary work. Usually a hero / heroine, but not always.

Antagonist the principal character in opposition to the protagonist or hero / heroine.

Round characters well developed characters that change over time. We get to know a lot about them (usually major characters).

Flat characters a ppear in the story, but have very limited personalities. They do not change much over the course of the story.

Static character a character who does not change throughout the course of the story

Dynamic character a character whose personality changes during the course of the story

Now we will look at some examples in your Lit book. STATIC OR DYNAMIC - AND WHY??? First read pgs of "Scout's Honor".
