Thursday

Objective Students will be able to demonstrate prior knowledge of inquiry and physical science as evidenced by correct answers written on Test 1-15

5 minute study for test

Test time! Clear your desks, when you have completed the test turn it into the homework/classwork bin

Vocabulary Polymers: very large carbon-based molecules made of smaller, repeating units Calorie: the amount of energy needed to increase the temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celsius Conduction: the process by which energy is transferred from a warmer object to a cooler object by means of physical contact

Vocabulary Conductor: a material that transfers energy easily; a material that transfers electric charge easily Convection: a process by which energy is transferred in gases and liquids, occurring when a warmer, less dense area of gas or liquid is pushed up by a cooler, more dense area of the gas or liquid Energy: the ability to do work or to cause a change

Vocabulary Energy Efficiency: a measurement of usable energy after an energy conversion Force: a push or pull; something that changes the motion of an object Friction: a force that resists the motion between two surfaces in contact Insulator: a material that does not transfer energy easily; a material that does not transfer electric charge easily

Homework Write the Term and Definition of each word and draw something that represents each term

Notes Position can change at different rates Speed is a measurement of how fast something moves through a particular distance over a given amount of time Formula: Speed = distance/time, or S = d/t

Notes continued Average speed is the average of several instantaneous speeds whose measurements are taken over a specific period of time. A distance-time graph shows how both distance and speed change with time.

Distance Time Graphs You can use these graphs to determine the speed of an object by calculating the slope of the line A positive slope means the object is moving away from its starting point A negative slope means an object is moving back toward its starting point

1. You have a hypothesis that of people ages 4 to 35, teenagers will like a new drink called SugarHi better than any other age group. You want to survey 40 people for their opinions about the drink, but you are unsure how many people to survey from each age group. Which of the answer choices below represents the most fair way to collect the data? A. B. C. D. B. The survey should be equally balanced among the age groups. If it is not balanced, then the survey will not reflect the opinions of each age group, but instead will be biased.
