Birth Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in town of Porbander in state of what is now Gujarat on 2 October 1869.

Salt March Gandhi Started the Salt March to protest the taxing of salt by the British. Several thousand marchers walked about 200 miles to the coast.

Arrest On the night of May, 4 Gandhi was sleeping in a cot under a mango tree, at a village near Dandi.

While In Jail During his time in prison, Gandhi studied and read books.

Fasting Gandhi was remembered for public fasting, a spiritual exercise that he adapted for political ends.

Hindu-Muslim Riots He went to Noakhali to fast to death until Hindus and Muslims learned to get along.

Quit India Speech It motivated India without using violence. The speech lead others, such as Martin Luther King Jr., to use non-violence in his speech.

Death Gandhi was assassinated on 30 January 1948 by Nathuram Godse.
