Technology and Spanish Anthony Backowski

The Spanish Major Spanish is one of the fastest growing languages in the United States and Latinos are the fastest growing ethnic group in this country. Students in the major must complete course work in grammar, phonetics, culture, history and literature both old and new. Courses are conducted entirely in Spanish and papers and reports are expected to be written in the language as well.

My Background In Spanish I have studied the language for more than 6 years, starting my freshman year in High School. I have traveled to Spain, where I lived with a family and studied the language in a school there. I have almost completed the major program at Kent State. I intend to teach Spanish after I complete my time here.

Spanish and Computers There are now many ways Spanish and computers interact now. Spanish has invaded computers in the forms of websites, word processing programs and other software. A common word processing program is Sin Falta.

Computers in the Classroom The wide spread use of computers in classrooms has made things easier for Spanish teachers everywhere. Some uses are online activites, web museums and dictionaries. Also the internet allows people to communicate worldwide.

Websites contain many activities to aid teachers. Cervantes.es is a government site that contains many activities for students and teachers. Some other online sources are diariodeburgos.es and terra.es. A newspaper and a search engine.

Computers also help to teach Spanish Phonetics to people and pronunciation. By using the computer we can hear a clear pronunciation of a word or letter. This allows people to understand the language mechanics and have better pronunciation of the words.

I intend to use technology in my classroom to help teach Spanish. The activities and possibilities are too good not to take advantage of this great tool.
